Huseyin Badıllı
Born in Turkey, living in Rotterdam, Hüseyin Badilli mixes jazz with Turkish music in a way only someone with his background can: he learned traditional Turkish music in his childhood, studied Western classical singing in college and moved across the globe to discover what jazz is all about. It was his love for jazz music that led him to discover the similarities between Turkish vocal ornamentation and the improvisation used when singing jazz. Exploring both similarities and differences between these forms became the driving force behind Hüseyin's musical style. Hüseyin Badilli is the composer, singer and leader of the Hüseyin Badilli Band (H.B.B.). His musical identity reflects a merge of the East and the West by combining Turkish traditional music (Anatolian folk songs and Ottoman Classical songs) and jazz music. His own compositions reflect and respect both styles.

The band first came together at the end of 2009 and soon was invited to play at various important jazz and world music festivals, namely Enschede International Jazz Festival, Turkey Now! 2010, Interculturele Jazz Festival 2010 Den Haag, North Sea Jazz Round town. In january 2011 Hüseyin Badilli was a semi-finalist in the Nederlands Jazz Vocalisten Concourse 2011. In 2010 he was a finalist of the VSBfonds Music Matters Award. In the same year he was a finalist at the Zomerterras Concourse. In 2011 he played a series of concerts in Istanbul with the support of the Dutch Consulate being a Dutch originated band. H.B.B released its first studio album 'SAFRAN' at Paradiso on April 22, 2012
Contact: www.huseyinbadilli.com
